SBY's English speeches illegal: Mahfud

This news is from JakartaPost.com

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has broken his own rule by delivering official speeches in English, Constitutional Court chief Mahfud MD said on Thursday.

Yudhoyono's fondness for using English instead of Indonesian in his speeches at various national and international events has been highlighted by the media.

In several occasions such as the Asian Summit and the Non Aligned Movement conference, Yudhoyono entertained audiences with his fluency in English.

Law No 24/2009 stipulates that Indonesian was compulsory for the president, vice president and state officials in official speeches.
Mahfud pointed out that it was not only the Constitution that the President violated, but also his own decree.

"A presidential regulation says that Indonesian should be spoken at international meetings," Mahfud said.

Idiom of the day: worth your while

Meaning: If something is worth your while, the benefits to you of doing it are greater than the value of the time or effort that it requires.

For example:
  • It's not worth my while doing this job. It takes me two hours to get there and two hours to get home, and it doesn't even pay very well.
  • Bill: "How can it be worth your while building a website if you won't be making money from it?" John: "Why does something have to be about making money to be worth one's while?"
Note: You can also say "worth my while", "worth his while", "worth her while", "worth their while", "worth our while", and so on.

I Want to Speak English

Hi everybody,

Nice to see you again here. I am very happy to share my English to you.
Some days ago my students asked me.

Student: "Mr. Darwoto, how can you speak English?"
Mr. Darwoto: "Just say it."
Student: "I don't understand what you mean."
Mr. Darwoto: "Just say what I want to say. I don't think the grammar deeply. Say and say.
Student: "I want to say, but I don't know the English word."
Mr. Darwoto: "Vocabulary is very important in speaking. If we don't have many vocabularies, we cannot speak."
Student: "I see. How do you master many vocabularies?"
Mr. Darwoto: " I made a target. One day, five words. How about you"
Student: "I didn't do it yet."
Mr. Darwoto: "Practice it, first. You can speak English if you have many English vocabularies.
Student: Thank you very much, sir. You're my best teacher."
Mr. Darwoto: Don't mention it.

Thank you so much,
